Vacation Highlights

As to be expected… my one week vacation went by way too fast! I’m so glad I was able to get a short break between ending school & starting work though.

Here are just a few highlights from my week off with my mom:

I want to wish everyone who’s participating in the 2013 Cleveland Marathon good luck this weekend! This clip from The League seemed fitting, too ;)

Whether you realize it or not, you are an inspiration to me & many others! :)

Walnut Wednesday!

Happy Hump Day! Since mom & I are on vacation, we went to Walnut Wednesday for lunch since we’ve both been dying to check out some of the awesome CLE food trucks!

It is so gorgeous out today… we loved being able to sit outside & enjoy our tasty treats :)

We had a hard time deciding what to get because there were so many delicious choices! Mom decided on Umami Moto, where she got the Szechuan Pork!

It smelled (and tasted) just as good as it looks!

I decided to go to Mavis & Winkle’s Paddy Wagon for their Balsamic Chicken Pita – which was so yummy (and slightly messy, just like food truck grub should be!).

I just love the pear & asiago cheese combo. My tummy is a happy camper :)

And of course, we couldn’t leave without getting some cinnamon sugar mini donuts from Donut Lab!

If you haven’t already, support our Cleveland food truck scene by checking out Walnut Wednesdays: every Wednesday from 11am – 1:30pm (though most stay later), now through September at Perk Plaza/Walnut Ave. in downtown Cleveland! It’s a great way to mix up your weekly lunches if you’re working downtown. I wish I did just so I could go to Walnut Wednesday every week! ;)

{Life Update} – A Brand New Chapter

I’m back! My last week or two of college, party planning, and graduation has kept me extremely occupied! I am finally entering a new phase in life – post grad. I can’t believe it’s already here…

431846_4718527487374_1813997249_n

But first things first… I did it! I chopped off all of my hair – and was able to donate 12 inches to Locks of Love! I’m actually still getting used to it, but it’s definitely nice for (what’s supposed to be) spring & then summer. Although since Ohio decided to be bipolar, I do miss the warmth of my long mane, ha!

Donated my hair to Locks of Love

I actually wanted to donate locally here in Cleveland (especially after reading how Julie from Wearing Mascara donated hers to Wigs for Kids!)… but I couldn’t find anything that accepted dyed hair. So when I finally found out that Locks of Love did, I was just glad to have found a place I could send my hair to! It makes it more meaningful and feels good knowing all of that hair will make a child’s life a little bit better :)
If you’re thinking about donating your hair – I highly recommend it!

On to the big news, though…

I’m officially a college graduate!

College Graduation Kent State University Class of 2013

I graduated from Kent State University on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing :) Class of 2013!

I can’t believe it’s finally come and gone! It went by so fast, but was such an incredible day. I was so thankful to have almost ALL of my family there to celebrate with me. A majority of my dad’s side of the family came down from upstate New York, my grandparents on my mom’s side came up from South Carolina, and my aunt, uncle, and cousin came down from Toledo! Plus, a few of my closest friends stopped by my grad party later that night. My only complaint was how cold it was! It still turned out to be one of the best days of my life though. I not only feel proud of myself for achieving this, but it warms my heart to make my family proud. My dad’s side of the family kept telling me how proud he would be/is of me. I decided to honor him (and my best friends, boyfriend, mom, and grandparents) by putting their pictures on my cap:

Graduation Cap Class of 2013 Tri Sigma

And of course I had to rock some Tri Sigma pride, too… ;)

Words can’t even describe how much I miss him and wish he could’ve been there to see me graduate, but I know he was there in spirit. It was so fun spending time with his side of the family though, it makes me feel closer to him. We were all reminiscing and realized my dad would’ve been 50 this past January. It’s still so hard to believe that he’s been gone for over 20 years. But I’m so thankful for him & my mom. I have this amazing, incredible family who always supports me and I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for them. My mom especially, because she raised me on her own, has always put up with me through everything, and is one of my best friends. Milestones really make you look back on everything that led you to that very moment… I still can’t believe how so many little things and people impacted my life so drastically.

In the midst of all of the excitement & celebrating, I forgot to take a single picture at my grad party (which directly followed my graduation ceremony). Silly me! Oh well, I at least have all of the fun memories..
It seriously was a hilarious, truly unforgettable night. My mom’s friend got me this for my graduation present:

Kent State University Class of 2013 Cornhole Bean Bag Toss set

Which I, of course, had no idea about when I bought & painted these…

Cornhole Bean Bag Toss game set from Pat Catan's

Now we have 2 sets, at least! Mike & I are talking about taking these ones and doing Cleveland & Columbus sports teams (Indians & Browns, Blue Jackets & Crew) and making it our tailgating set. Also, shameless plug… but if you’re looking for a decently priced set that you can customize yourself – I got these from Pat Catan’s for less than $30 for each board. Such a good deal! However, the set my mom’s friend got me were done by someone and obviously turned out fantastically, too.

So I guess the next big question is…

What now?

I have all of this week off for vacation, for starters. My mom & I were going to take off to some unknown destination when we first decided this, but we didn’t have time to plan anything so we decided to just do a staycation instead, which is actually pretty perfect and much less stressful (oh, and cheaper too!). We’re still not 100% sure of what all we want to do (because we know the time is going to evaporate), but we have a few things planned. One of which is checking out Walnut Wednesday since we’ll both be off of work! I can’t wait :) Also, I just saw that the Downtown Cleveland Alliance is having a Pop Up Party with more food trucks, so we just might have to check that out too! We’re also heading to an ELLE blogger event Thursday evening, so that should be pretty fun (who doesn’t love free food & gift bag swag?). And I can’t forget that it’s also Cleveland Marathon weekend! One of my sorority sisters is running the half (I believe), and my big was supposed to join her but registration was full, so we might go cheer the runners on… we shall see!
So much to do, so little time… I tell ya.

It is already nice having time off between ending school & starting work. I’m continuing at the company I’ve been interning at, so I plan on really taking in every moment of this vacation before I head back to work next Monday. I’ll let you know when reality hits me… haha! I will definitely be appreciating not having to study for exams, pull all-nighters, schedule classes, write papers, and so on though. I want to take advantage of my free time as much as possible. I obviously have a few blog posts to catch up on, too… Oops! I also really want to get back into reading, focus on getting healthy & working out more, continue trying new things and taking every opportunity I can, and more. We’re already planning a couple weekend road trips, too. My cousin is graduating college this coming Saturday, so we’re going up to New York in June for his grad party. Such an exciting time for our family!

Speaking of family, before everyone left to head back to New York, we all went out for a huge Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday. We had about 21 people altogether… my dad’s side of the family is HUGE, but we love it that way! One of my uncles, his fiancee, and their kids stayed an extra day, so we got to go to Red Lobster for Mother’s Day dinner with them, too. By the time the day was over, we were ready to pass out from all of that food and the running around we’ve been doing.

Yesterday was our first day of vacation post-graduation, so we kept it really low key. We ran some errands, got some movies, and my mom cooked a wonderful dinner for her, myself, and Mike. Now we get to spend the rest of the week having a blast & continuing the relaxation!

I hope you are having a great week so far, too!

If you have any recommendations for things we should do this week, please let me know! We’re always looking for new things to do/try :)

A Quick Update & A Decision

I’m back for a quick update! Things are getting hectic around here… Here’s a glimpse:

*Last Saturday, my mom and I went to MedWish’s Band Aid Bash 2013 courtesy of Clue Into Cleveland’s giveaway :) Thanks, Amanda, for the opportunity to attend this wonderful event! {I’ll have a blog post all about it up as soon as I possibly can!}

*Overall, my week began pretty stressfully, and ended very relaxing. I had 2 papers and a presentation due early in the week, so I was very busy with those. But I’m happy to say that I finished it all and now all that’s left between me and graduation is 3 final exams and 7 days (as of today)!

262428_4755177843610_996399444_n

*After such a stressful beginning to my week, I decided that a vacation was needed before starting work full-time. My mom was able to get off work & my company didn’t care so it’s official and I am ecstatic. We’re taking off the week after graduation! It’s going to be so nice to unwind after all of this craziness with finals, graduation, party, and so on. Also it’s basically official that I’m going to be staying at the company I’m currently interning at after graduation, so that’s amazing news too! Also with that being said, Friday was my last day technically as an intern (since I’ll have 2 weeks off). Crazy, right?!

*Friday night, Mike and I went to the Indians game! It was an interesting & fun adventure, which I’ll probably follow up with in another post.

*So far today, I’ve been helping my mom out with getting everything ready for my graduation party. It’s been a crazy day, but productive. Tonight, we’re heading to downtown for the Jillian Michaels Maximize Your Life tour! You’ll hear more about that later, too :)

So here’s where the decision comes in…

I have a hair appointment scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday and I’ve been seriously debating chopping a lot of my hair off. It’s gotten SO long, and while I do like it… it’s also a major pain in the *ss and I don’t do much with it like I wish I would. My hair is not very carefree/maintenance free. It’s SUPER thick, it gets frizzy, and frankly I’m kind of sick of it. But then there’s this part of me that thinks I will regret cutting it off & I’ll miss it… I know it’ll grow back though so I don’t know what I’m afraid of. I’m also the world’s most indecisive person ever… so that doesn’t help. My mom and Mike both think I should chop it. It would be nice for the summer… and change is always good, especially since everything else in my life is changing with graduation & everything… It might be nice to have a fresh start.

This is really pretty!

This is really pretty!

Hmm... I also kind of like this, too.

Hmm… I also kind of like this, too.

More short-ish styles… and long bobs? Maybe? #clueless

Okay, wow. I actually REALLY love this style. Maybe we have a winner?

Okay, wow. I actually REALLY love this style. Maybe we have a winner?

Let me know what you think or if you have any other inspiration pictures that would be good to go off of. I still haven’t made my decision yet but that last picture is making me lean towards CHOPPING! :)

The Rest of My Weekend Adventures

Don’t the weekends go by too fast? Surprisingly though, this week has actually flown by (so far) too, and for that I am thankful! Last weekend, I got a break from school and homework and got to have some fun, as you’ve already seen by my date night post ;) Now let me tell you about the rest of my weekend!

Friday, I had the day off because I had a dentist appointment over in my old stomping grounds: Lorain County. I ended up fitting in some shopping time with my mom, as well. I was in need of new spring shoes for work since when I last shopped for work clothes, it was still a wintery wonderland here in Ohio, so I mostly have boots & it’s getting too hot for those. We stopped by Famous Footwear and I was able to find 4 new pairs of shoes :)

Sperry Topsiders

First, I found these Sperry’s on sale. I fell in love with them instantly because of the purple! It’s become one of my favorite colors, especially since it’s one of my sorority’s colors too.

Classic black flats to go with pretty much any outfit.
Can’t go wrong!

Cute silver flats that will match most outfits, too, and allows me to switch it up! Buy them here.

These pretty gold wedges were on sale, and just looked so cute on my feet so I couldn’t resist!

I also came home from Marshall’s with a dress, 2 cropped pants, jean capris, my first peplum top, and some new workout clothes! Score!

Left: Mint Express brand jeggings; Middle: Soprano color block dress (The one I got is actually navy & teal, though); Right: White Lucky Brand crop jeans

Left: Mint Express brand jeggings (similar to picture)
Middle: Soprano color block dress (Same style as picture, but the one I got is actually navy & teal)
Right: White Lucky Brand crop jeans (similar to picture)

The peplum top pairs perfectly with the white crop jeans, and how cute is the back?! Also I love that I got it at a much cheaper price tag, thanks to Marshall’s ;) Can’t wait for the weather to warm back up so I can wear it! Seriously, I know it’s typical Ohio but COME ON! I am ready for lots more sunshine.

Also, I must have really good timing because Jaclyn from Sharing My Sole just posted about the mint green trend, too! Go read her blog post here, with her fabulously styled outfit!

Friday evening, Mike & I indulged in pizza because we weren’t in the mood to cook. Let me just tell you, Mike is a New Jersey boy at heart (I’ve probably said that before, right?). Not a guido, though! Ha! However, he is used to New York style pizza, it’s what he grew up with & what he loves. So, one day last summer we started searching for places in the area that did that style of pizza and lo-and-behold, the only one we found that was still open was no more than 5 minutes from us! How cool is that?

Capri Pizza New York Style Cleveland Ohio

Now, I can’t say we’ve been to every pizza place in the area, but this one’s close & it’s really good. It’s not exactly the same as being back home for him, but considering what other choices we have locally, he loves it. I’m trying to work on my eating habits so we try not to do this too often, but when we do, Capri is our go to. Check it out if you’ve never had them!

Sunday was relaxing, as well. We purchased The Furminator, and it has been a god-send with our extremely furry, long-haired Maine Coon cat. We also gave her a bath after we were done, and it was pretty amusing. Supposedly, Maine Coon cats are supposed to like to swim, so we’ve been working on getting Molly more comfortable with water. Check out the video here:

Anyways, other than that, I made yet ANOTHER graduation countdown, because let’s face it: I’m a little obsessed. Okay, a lot obsessed!

IMG_7409

Yep… lots to do in the next two weeks! So close, yet so far. I also still need to decorate my cap! Was that always a thing for people to do or is it just gaining popularity now? I kind of decorated my high school graduation cap, but it was pretty lame. This is a much bigger deal to me, so I want it to look nice. But I haven’t had time to think of any ideas! Planning my party has been on my mind too, I still need to figure out what food I’m going to have! I was trying to get it catered, but I don’t know if it’s too late for that now or not. If you have any local catering suggestions, I would love to know about them!

Laughing the Night Away in CLE

Saturday was a blast! Mike & I went on a date night in downtown Cleveland.

Thursday morning on my way to work, I was listening to Rover’s Morning Glory when I heard them talking about The League on FX, and eventually realized they had Steve Rannazzisi on the air! I got so excited when I found out that he was doing stand up shows in Cleveland over the weekend that I immediately texted Mike to see if he wanted to go. We eventually decided to go to the 7pm show on Saturday. I’m sad to say that, at the time, I was more excited than Mike was. I don’t know why (he’s a hermit sometimes, haha). Once we got to downtown Cleveland though, he started having a great night. We rode the RTA train into Tower City and walked over to the beautiful East 4th Street.

East 4th Street Cleveland Ohio

We were originally going to try Chinato, but we dressed more casual and it seemed like a nicer place, so we settled on The Corner Alley for a burger. I didn’t get any fancy pics of our food or anything, but Mike had a Burning River burger, which consisted of hot sauce, bacon, jalapeño, and pepper jack. My boy loves spicy things. I got the BBQ Bacon Burger, but I got mine as a turkey burger! It came with root beer bbq, pepper jack (which I switched for provolone), bacon, & fried onion straws. It was really good, definitely one of the best turkey burgers I’ve ever had. I’d like to go back and actually go bowling there sometime!

After dinner, we had some time to kill so we went and walked through The Arcade because even though I’ve been in Cleveland for over 10 years, I had never actually been to it. Actually, there’s a lot of things in Cleveland I haven’t done (which is why I’m making a Cleveland Bucket List, of sorts…) but that’s for another time. Getting off topic!

The Arcade Cleveland Ohio

My iPhone snapshot of the Arcade.

What a gorgeous building! After that, we stopped into the CLE Clothing Co. store just to browse around and check out all of their awesome CLE stuff. I found an art-drawing of the city that I really wanted. Then we popped into Erie Island Coffee Co for a quick cup o’ joe to boost us through the rest of the night (read: we’re old). Then it was finally time to head into Hilarities for the show!

Hilarities Pickwick and Frolic Cleveland Ohio East 4th Street Comedy Club

This was my first stand up comedy show, and Mike’s second (he saw Bob Saget at Kent State his freshman year – lucky!). We got there pretty early so we got good seats, and I ordered up a strawberry daiquiri to start things off, followed by an amaretto sour later in the night. The vibe is really cool there, I don’t really know how to explain it but it was like… relaxed and casual but at the same time classy and cool. It’s definitely a place I will go back to for a fun night out. I’d love to go with friends too! The show started off with a local Cleveland comedian named Ramon Rivas! Here’s a video I found on YouTube of an older set of his. Next up was Steve Simeone, who I could only describe as high energy and hilarious. He came out with a joke that was pretty much exactly what Mike & I went through before deciding to go out on Saturday. It was about how when you’re older you have to plan fun, instead of when you’re young how fun just happens. It was so, so funny. There was a lot of other jokes too that we were hysterically laughing at. Here’s a short clip of an older set from Steve Simeone. Then, Steve Rannazzisi finally came on!

Steve Rannazzisi from The League on FX

If you’ve never heard of Steve Rannazzisi, he plays Kevin on the TV show The League. Mike got me into this show, and let me tell you – it is FUNNY. Its overall theme is about fantasy football, but there’s so much other stuff going on so if you’re not a huge sports person, I’m sure you’d still find it funny. Also it’s definitely not PG, fyi. I do believe most of the seasons are on Netflix, too.
Their website also has a nice little description:

To be a fan of The League on FX, you don’t need to know much about fantasy football, or sports at all. You just need to have friends that you hate. FX’s ensemble comedy follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league who care deeply about one another – so deeply that they use every opportunity to make each other’s lives miserable.

The League FX TV show

Steve’s set was awesome. He mentioned The League a little bit, but I’m glad he didn’t go too much into it, because then it would’ve felt like we were just watching the TV show (not that it would’ve been bad, but there’s more to him than just his character on the show, haha). Steve actually got his start on the MTV show Punk’d, which I never knew! I have to say, I am SO glad we went to this show (and Mike was too). I’m pretty sure there were some parts where I couldn’t breathe I was laughing so hard. Especially this one bit he did about how girlfriends don’t “move in,” they just start leaving stuff in places and one day you wake up and realize they are there every day. It was funny because that’s kind of what happened with Mike & I. We didn’t officially move in together, but he liked having me around and I liked being around… so eventually I just started staying over more & more, and well, the rest is history. ;)

You can check out @Ramon Rivas, @Steve Simeone, and @Steve Rannazzisi on Twitter by clicking each of their names! Also, Steve will be doing shows in Columbus this upcoming weekend if you’re in that area! Get more details here. Also, if you just can’t get enough of Steve like Mike & I can’t, we just checked out his YouTube TV series and it is hilarious as well. Seriously, this guy is comedy gold. Check out ”Daddy Knows Best” on YouTube here!

After the show, Steve stayed to take pictures with everyone that wanted to, so of course we waited for one!

IMG_7397

Then finally, after stopping at the Champagne Bar to catch a glimpse of the Indians game (who were somehow winning 18-6), we eventually left and walked over to Chocolate Bar because it was another thing in Cleveland I hadn’t done yet, plus it was just right across the street.

I ended up getting a Peanut Butter Cup martini, which was delicious! However, I don’t remember the last time I had a martini and I forgot how STRONG they are! It took a little getting used to, haha.

Chocolate Bar Peanut Butter Cup Martini Cleveland Ohio

How delicious does that look?!

After I finished that up, we headed back to the train and went home. It was so nice to have a night on the town with just the two of us.

I just love this picture of us!

I just love this picture of us!

Have you ever been to a stand up show in Cleveland? Who are your favorite comedians?
